Let's Move On!

Whatever the pages of the book of "2016" now have written in them, a new chapter is just around the corner! We are BETTER than we were one year ago. We improved, learned, grew, and gained from the good and the bad!

I am full of anticipation for 2017! This Saturday night at 8pm we will have our "Sunday on Saturday" church service that will take the place of our normal Sunday morning services this week. I have a WORD FROM HEAVEN for you this Saturday night! I hope you're there! Join us for this time of Worship and the Word and then stay after for a campus full of fun and food that will culminate with our gathering in Xenox to celebrate the launch of 2017. We'll then make our way outside and release hundreds of beautiful Chinese lanterns as an expression of our prayers ascending to heaven. (We welcome Jocklene Zweifel back as she'll be leading worship that night!)

I believe 2017 is the year you discover more about your unique design and purpose on this Earth. Your personal fulfillment and happiness depends on it! It's a year of SYNERGY! Yep... That's our theme for the year. Months of prayer, meetings, pondering and consideration has lead us to adopt the term SYNERGY as our 2017 theme. The best part of this theme is that it includes you! The basic definition of Synergy is this: The interaction and cooperation of two or more agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. YOU ARE A PART! You're a cog, a gear in the machine that has to find your fit in order for the whole body to operate at its best.

We is greater than Me!

Start the year right by gathering with the FAMILY on Saturday night at 8pm. Adventure Kids and Xenox Jr. High will have their normal gatherings. Some have asked... This Saturday night is the final opportunity for giving to be recorded for the 2016 fiscal year.

Don't forget to register today for the first 7-weeks of Wednesday night Elective classes that begin on the 4th. Get more info and register here on www.becharity.com by clicking the link "electives" on the main page.

I'm thrilled to be on this journey with you! I personally have recognized some areas in me that require attention. Together we're better! Let's do this! SYNERGY!

Pastor Paul

We Americans have a peculiar idea of what being BLESSED means. We label things as "blessings" if they bring us happiness and pleasure. Our idea of blessed is very different from what Jesus calls blessed. When we think of blessings we often think of luxury items, but let's be humble for a moment and call our blessings the simple things like; a roof over our head, dependable transportation, a decently healthy body and a few days of happiness here and there. Many of the people Jesus calls BLESSED in the verses below are facing troubles that none of us would enjoy or label as blessings. As you read this portion of the Sermon on the Mount, observe who and what Jesus calls blessed. I believe the ending of this portion of scripture indicates why He calls these people BLESSED.

Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven...

"Poor," "Mourn," "Hunger and thirst," "Persecuted,"... HE CALLS THESE PEOPLE BLESSED?!?! What's that about? This is a long way from "Big house, Cool Car, Handsome Face, Honor-role Kids!" Why does Jesus call these people blessed? I believe He's driving us to a point! He sees beyond the here and now. He has an eternal perspective. Review that last scripture with me, "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in HEAVEN!" Where? In HEAVEN! He's working to draw our attention off of the momentary things of this Earth and onto things eternal!

If we would see with an eternal perspective we'd simply count our blessings very differently as much of what we currently call "blessings" wouldn't be counted at all! Our pursuits and priorities would change. What would change in you if you really lived life with an eternal perspective? What offense or pain would you get over that's been holding you down? Who would you forgive and what struggle would you move beyond? What would change about your daily living? What would change about how you handle the resources you have such as time, energy and money? There's NO QUESTION that we'd be more SELF-LESS if we lived with eternity in mind.

This is where we begin to do that. We remind ourselves that life is but a vapor even if we're here 100 years. We're just passing through on our way to eternity. Let's GIVE, LOVE, ENDURE, FORGIVE, & __(fill in the blank)__ knowing this life is but a brief test that determines our eternity. Jesus did... so we should as well.

We're getting BETTER! We're becoming more like JESUS!

Pastor Paul

What a week can do!

I'm just amazed! Last Sunday I announced that Pastor David would be in the lobby handing out a sheet of paper with a list of things we could gather for those suffering from devastating floods in Louisiana. Since that time this has flowered into something much bigger than I had imagined. Pastor David Gibson and Todd Francis posted a video on Facebook that was viewed nearly 4,000 times. This morning I was live on the radio (98.7), while others were on the local News channels. What began as an effort to collect enough items to fill a 10' trailer has now grown into four trucks at four locations, in other words... "LOT'S OF STUFF"!

LET ME JUST SAY... I LOVE WHEN GODS PEOPLE DO SOMETHING ABOUT DARKNESS! The problem with the world isn't that the darkness is so deep, it's simply that no one thought to turn the lights on! THAT'S US! Jesus said we are salt and light. He didn't tell us that so we'd feel warm fuzzy's. He told us that so that we'd understand our purpose. Light is best served in darkness. Salt is best served in bitter and sour places. Let's go far beyond just going to church, let's BE THE CHURCH!

We say it often at Charity. LOVE DOES! Don't just care for someone... CARRY someone!

I'm honored that this be my first blog post! I'm thrilled to be able to LOVE GOD by serving alongside people like you!

I pray all of us would remain and continue to cultivate a heart of generosity in ourselves. GIVE, GIVE, GIVE! You'll be glad you did! GIVE: smiles, time, affirmation, food, talent, patience, money, hugs, kindness, hope, encouragement, 2nd chances, opportunities, & LOVE! We all have something that we have plenty of that we can give extravagantly!

I pray we all find the deeply fulfilling joy of giving. There's no human on Earth more miserable than a selfish person and God does NOT want you miserable!

Blessings to your day!

Paul A. Slagle
